SPRING TIME MEANS...

CONTROLLED BURNING

  • Spring is a popular time to burn. Before you burn that brush and yard waste, don't forget to call the fire department at (519)595-2800 and get a controlled burn permit. It's quick, easy and can be done over the phone - not to mention, it's FREE!
  • Avoid the cost of an unexpected visit by fire trucks and an even more unexpected fine to pay - before you burn, call it in!
  • Burning over the weekend? Call us on the Thursday or Friday and we can make the form valid for the whole weekend.
  • Remember, there is to be no burning after dark so burn early and burn safely!
  • Mind what you burn - materials such as tires, plastics, gasoline, oil and household garbage should be discard properly - these items can be toxic if burned so please leave these items OUT of the fire.
  • Please remember that simply leaving a message does NOT give you permission to burn. You must speak to a member of staff directly, so make sure that if you leave a message, you include your phone number. We'll get back to you as soon as possible.

FARM FIRE SAFETY

  • Spring is a very busy time for the farming community, but don't let the hectic schedule affect farm safety!. Nuisances such as cobwebs not only make things look dirty, cobwebs create a fast and uncontrollable path for fire to spread. So tidy up the barn and clean up those cobwebs, loose hay, and other items.
  • Spring is a great time to inspect the wiring around the farm before the hot weather comes. If a fan is in disrepair, replace or repair it before it costs you the farm.
  • Do you have a farm fire plan? Interested in creating one? Contact the Fire Department at (519)595-2800 and we'll work with you to make your farm, fire-safe!
